The 'Midstream' Opportunity - Value-Added Processing Across the Tethyan Belt

Moving beyond raw ore exports is the defining ambition of the region. This session examines the strategic and technical pathways to domestic processing, refining and intermediate product manufacturing — from battery precursors and alloys to REE oxides. Case studies will cover Türkiye’s boron and REE processing strategy, Uzbekistan’s TMK integrated model, Kazakhstan’s midstream investments, and Armenia’s copper-molybdenum downstream challenge. The CBAM/EU traceability agenda will be addressed.

    Key themes
    • Türkiye’s industrial processing strategy: from boron chemicals to REE magnets and battery precursors.
    • Kazakhstan Vision 2030: building high-value metallurgical clusters — copper POX, green HBI, rare earths.
    • Uzbekistan TMK’s integrated value chain: from geological exploration to intermediate product export.
    • Armenia’s copper-molybdenum processing gap: from concentrate to cathode copper and molybdenum oxide.
    • EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and Digital Product Passports: implications for Tethyan Belt exporters.

Sustainable Mining, ESG and the Social Licence to Operate in the Tethyan Belt

From legacy tailing dams and Aral Sea remediation to CBAM compliance and IFC Performance Standards, ESG is no longer a compliance burden but a prerequisite for access to international capital. This session examines environmental rehabilitation, water stewardship, community engagement, and how best-in-class ESG unlocks institutional financing across the region.

    Key themes
    • Water stewardship as a competitive advantage: Central Asia’s escalating water stress and mining sector obligations.
    • Tailing management in a GISTM world: active monitoring, insurance implications, and Kazakhstan’s 2026–2028 Roadmap.
    • ESG as investment catalyst: how transparency frameworks (EITI, IRMA, Digital Product Passports) attract responsible capital.
    • Decarbonising Central Asian mining: low-carbon processing, green hydrogen readiness, and scope 3 reporting.
    • Post-mining remediation and circular economy: Armenia and Central Asia’s legacy tailing recovery potential.

Technology, Digitisation and AI in Mineral Exploration and Mining Operations

    Key themes
    • AI-driven exploration targeting using legacy Soviet geoscience data: Kazakhstan national-scale models to deposit-scale results.
    • UAV-TEM and airborne geophysics as a strategic exploration accelerator in Central Asia.
    • Digital mine management: IoT, predictive maintenance and production optimisation in mining sector.
    • Infrared spectral drill core scanning and hyperspectral remote sensing for the Tethyan Belt.
    • Laboratory automation and LIMS in exploration and production: cutting turnaround time and improving data quality.

Exporting Engineering, Digitalisation and Exploration Excellence

Turkish and International Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) companies are heavily involved in modernising Central Asia and the Caucasus. The session will showcase achievements Large Scale Industrial Complexes Development, Exploration Technology and Digital Tech projects developed in the region.

    Key themes
    • Executing large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects.
    • Delivering energy projects.
    • The digitalisation and automation of the Trans-Caspian transport route are critical for sustainable implementation.
    • Technological innovation is driving new discoveries
